In addition to elegance, Nero d'Avola deserves recognition as the king of black grapes; for its velvety, deep, fruity wine character. Your head is tangled only by its wonderful scent evoking the Mediterranean. Will you let her enchant you too?
Nero d’Avola - about the variety
This variety dominates Sicilian vineyards without exaggeration, except perhaps those in the Etna area. It is often vinified in a mixture; the combination with Frappato is well known, but also with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and the Syrah variety. If it is vinified clean, it reflects the character of the locality of its origin. Those produced in central and western Sicily tend to be more fruity and sweeter, while wines from grapes grown in the south-east are finer with strong hints of dried flowers and spices.
Who will enjoy these wines
Especially for those who can appreciate their strong personality. Depending on the style of the winery, they are sometimes a bit robust, other times very smooth. The primary scents are defined by fruits and flowers - black cherries, blackberries, plums and blueberries on the one hand and violet on the other. The taste of these sweet fruits and the aroma of the flower also gently spill over in the mouth during tasting. As it matures, Nero d'Avola develops spicy tertiary aromas such as leather, cocoa, chocolate, carob, licorice and cinnamon. Hints of menthol or balsamic are no exception.
What dishes to serve them with
Feel free to pair Nero d'Avola with grilled meat and well-ripened cheeses. Its senior representatives then go well with elaborate meat dishes of intense flavors, forest mushroom-based dishes and also game.
